Wal-Mart Vs. Women

A federal judge in the United States this week Tuesday ruled that a sex discrimination case against Wal-Mart, the world's biggest retailer, can be pursued as a class action lawsuit. The suit could involve 1.6 million American women.

I think it's ironic that they justified paying the guy more on the grounds that he had a family to raise. One of the reasons women have hard times getting good jobs is because there is a fear that they will get married and want to raise a family. Why take the risk hiring someone who might not be around in a year or two?

To be honest, I think I know considerably more sexist women than men though. I think a lot of sexism is about older women, who have allowed themselves to be shafted, not wanting to admit that they made the wrong choices. Rather than accept their mistakes, they turn them into virtues in their minds and encourage younger women to aim low as well.

My ex-mother-in-law was like that. She was constantly encouraging me to aim for the chaff. She justified it on the basis of "what was good enough for me should be good enough for you."

As long as women accept less as a collective, they will receive less as a collective.
