FBI Canvassing for "Troublemakers"

from The New York Times
The Federal Bureau of Investigation has been questioning political demonstrators across the country, and in rare cases even subpoenaing them, in an aggressive effort to forestall what officials say could be violent and disruptive protests at the Republican National Convention in New York.

When I was trying to get my residency to get into New Zealand, I visited the local FBI office here in San Antonio. I needed FBI clearance as part of the paperwork. Anyway, this guy name Greg Morse made all sorts of calls for me, and did some fingerprinting I needed done on their special forms. He was so nice. I would have had to go pay to have someone do it for me otherwise.

Anyway, when I thanked him profusely, he said that if anyone ever bad mouthed the FBI , to tell them my story, so they'd know that not everyone in the FBI is a scum bucket. [Of course, those weren't his exact words.]

My mom was telling me today that she read an article in the NY Times about how the police in Florida were hassling a group of black activists there, who were trying to help elderly people with absentee voting. Hold on, I think she forwarded it to me:

http://www.nytimes.com/2004/08/16/opinion/16herbert.htmlI think it's really sick the things they have been doing to black voters in Florida. And the fact they have not cleaned up their act after the embarrassment of the 2000 election. It goes beyond disgusting. Maybe they aren't embarrassed, but I certainly am. :-(
