The New Face of Public Television

from FAIR
A new public television program called The Journal Editorial Report, featuring writers and editors from the arch-conservative Wall Street Journal editorial page, will debut tonight on public television stations around the country. The show joins Tucker Carlson: Unfiltered, hosted by conservative CNN pundit Tucker Carlson, and a planned program featuring conservative commentator Michael Medved as part of what many see as politically motivated decisions to bring more right-wing voices to public television.

This article late last year got to me to contribute to Common Cause for this very reason:

http://www.commoncause.org/news/printable.cfm?ArtID=270When the right wants a media monopoly, they mean a mean monopoly. That means total control of everything.

It's called the "Help Make America Democratic Act." :(

Hey Ryan,

Would you go post one last something-or-other in Radical Moderate's blog? I wanted to agree with what you wrote. But I always seem to get the last word in these things, and I don't even want it.

Oh, and woud you post a "Day In the Life of Ryan" entry in your blog sometime?

Hmm...what else shall add to my wish list here......... :)

How about an alternative view piece?

I wonder, could you guys rate the media I have mentioned in a post on my blog please? I never realised that liberals thought the media biased at all; definately not for the right. That's amazing. You sound just like the talk radio crowd when Air America stepped up.

Gecko, I answered your post, but I didn't specifically say whether I thought there was a right or left wing bias. My feeling is that there has been a major shift in the bias over the last ten years.

First of all, I think there is a big difference in the print media versus the tv media. The TV media is considerably more conservative. And even when it's not biased to the right, it still tends to be more manipulative. But it is also more conservative.

Also, US news is considerably more manipulative than news elsewhere. The best tv news is available online if you have Real Media. Check out the link on my website for the BBC news console. The BBC is way more objective in my opinion.

I like Bill Moyers show NOW. It is very left, but also very objective. And the reason I say that is because despite focusing on things from a liberal perspective, it still digs out facts. It just doesn't dig out the conservative facts. That's what the Economist is for.

Just a PBS note from someone in Denver, Moyer is of course retiring soon, his show will be cancelled after the elections, if I recall correctly. We didn't air the Carlson show this weekend due to pledge, so I'm interested to hear what anyone thought of it.

Are you sure they are cancelling it? I heard Moyers say in an interview that David Brancaccio would be continuing it and that he was just quitting to write a book on LBJ.

That would really be suspect if they cancelled it, considering Bush's latest appointments and all these right wing shows popping up right and left. Or mainly just popping to the right--it doesn't seem acceptable to pop to the left anymore. :(
