Oppressortunities!

New York Times:

Strange as it may seem, sweatshops in Asia had the effect of empowering women.

You know what they say: the only thing worse than a hungry girl working in a sweatshop is a hungry girl not working in a sweatshop!

And then they immediately discuss footbinding, suggesting that Western capitalism empowered these women. No, the end of footbinding in China, at least, was achieved by Chinese totalitarianism.
